The Author

Yauvan

Yauvan works in artificial intelligence. He is Regional Director for Africa at The AI Collective, has spent years building and advising on AI systems, and writes on technology, consciousness and meaning — describing himself, on a good day, as a techno-spiritual thinker metabolising material experience through symbolism, critical thinking and wonder.

Before that he spent years inside the machine he now writes about — consulting at Deloitte, Accenture and EY. It is the reason the boardroom in this novel is not researched. He has sat in that meeting, read that deck, and watched a number get reframed until it stopped meaning what it meant.

He is currently building three things at once: Mdali, HyperTribe and ReLUGG. He writes at yauvan.substack.com and is based in South Africa.

The Prophet is his first novel and the first volume of a trilogy he expects to spend ten years writing. It asks a question he spends his working life inside: whether the thing we are building is a very good imitation of a mind, or something that was never ours to build in the first place.

The final chapter was not written by him.
